Fund Distribution
United Way of Central Virginia is the most diverse and broad-based giving program in the region, working with the community to effectively and efficiently meet the region's most critical human service needs. The bottom line is to ensure that the programs receiving United Way funding are creating measurable results. The 2010 distribution of funds from the 2009 campaign has been approved.
Allocating funds to programs at United Way agencies is a very involved process, and United Way staff does not make any decisions about allocations. Many trained volunteers from within our community serve on the Fund Distribution Committee and spend several months carefully analyzing our community's needs, evaluating the performance and impact of agency programs and studying funding requests. Once the committee's recommendations are approved by United Way's Board of Directors, funds are distributed to programs that make the greatest impact in our community.
From February through May each year, the Fund Distribution Committee examines applications for United Way support. The committee makes site visits to evaluate each program's performance and results, studies funding requests, analyzes our community's needs and deliberates over potential allocations based on this data. The committee then makes its recommendation to United Way of Central Virginia's Board of Directors, which gives the final approval on allocations during its May meeting. Agencies are then informed of the level of funding their programs will receive in the coming year.
