Native of Lynchburg-lived early years in
Amherst County (family long-time residents).

Washington and Lee (BA), University of Virginia (MA)
Jobs and Career:Teacher, Nelson County High School
U.S. Foreign Service Information Officer,
Washington, D.C., and Lima, Peru
Long-time career as professional
executive and campaign manager, United Way-began in Richmond;
has directed
campaigns in Charlottesville, Virginia; Chester County, Pennsylvania; Columbus,
Georgia
and Waterloo, Iowa; have managed United Way organizations in Maryville,
Tennessee; Gulfport-Biloxi,
Mississippi; Texarkana, Texas-Arkansas; and
Hazleton, Pennsylvania (most recently).
Since retirement from full-time UW
service, have worked with Pennsylvania Economy League
(public-policy research
agency) and, lately, as mentor/emergency consultant to mid-size UW
organizations: Rocky Mount, Virginia; Beckley, West Virginia; Middlesboro,
Kentucky; Murfreesboro,
Tennessee; Natchez, Mississippi; Opelousas, Louisiana;
and Gilette, Wyoming.
Re-located to central Virginia, 2001,
resident of Forest-married to former Kay Gilliam
(of Pamplin, Virginia); two
grown sons, David and Jonathan.
