Our Mission
United Way of Central Virginia is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization that has served Central Virginia since 1921. We provide services and funding for non-profit service organizations and charities throughout Central Virginia - the counties of Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford, and Campbell and the cities of Bedford and Lynchburg.
United Way is an independent organization governed by a volunteer Board of Directors comprised of 24 members. Each member lives in one of the jurisdictions in Central Virginia, and have skills and perspectives to ensure diversity and strong decision-making. These volunteers represent our donors and make decisions regarding policies, funding, and strategic planning.
Our Purpose:
To improve our citizens' lives by enhancing the caring power of Central Virginians and promoting the region as a caring community that empowers its people to reach their potential.
Our Vision: To be a caring community which empowers its people to reach their potential. Our Mission: To be recognized as the premier organization for identifying the community's critical human needs and addressing those needs through aggressive fundraising and effective allocation of resources.
