Day of Caring Take Action Projects - June 21, 2008

Take Action Projects have not yet been determined, but they will consist of five (5) different, community impact focused projects. Four projects will concern the four United Way-identified Focus Areas and the fifth will pertain to the Community Wide Outcome identified through the United Way Needs Assessment. The following is a list of the Focus Areas and the Community Wide Outcome:

Strengthened Families & Individuals: The Growing Aging Population
Healthy & Independent Individuals: Mental Health
Successful Children & Youth: The Growing Hispanic Population
People in Crisis Receive Help: Alcohol & Drug Abuse
Community Wide Outcome: Youth will have the skills to succeed in the workforce.

As stated, these projects have not yet been identified, but they will be designed to accomodate large numbers of volunteers. Across the nation, other United Ways have facilitated these types of projects and have had much success with them. An example of a project might be that a group of volunteers comes together to create an installation in a local park which brings light to a community-wide critical human need (such as "The Growing Aging Population). Another example would be that a group of volunteers organizes a workshop to educate the community about a different community-wide critical human need (such as "Alcohol and Drug Abuse").

Organizing the Take Action Projects on June 21, 2008 allows families, community individuals, and school system employees to participate in Day of Caring. The date also allows for more community interaction as the 21st falls on a Saturday and provides the most daylight hours in one day of the entire year!
