Work Hard & Play Hard on Day of Caring! The day you've been planning and organizing has finally arrived! Here's some final advice and instructions for DOC 2008: |
|
1. |
Time management is key for a successful DOC. Make sure to allow for set up and clean up times, and assign a staff or board member to set up the project site so you'll be ready before the volunteer teams arrive. |
2. |
Register volunteers when they arrive at your site by having them sign in on the sheet provided. Fax or mail the sheets to United Way along with your feedback survey within a week of Day of Caring. |
3. |
Give your volunteers a brief orientation and tour of your agency. Not all will be familiar with the services you provide and the people you help. |
4. |
Be accessible to the volunteers in case they have questions or need to find materials or tools. Have extra tools lying around for unexpected needs or for a volunteer who may have forgotten theirs. Also, place trash bins in high volume areas. |
5. |
Join us for a free lunch at Lynchburg City Stadium from 11:30am-1:30pm. Work out the lunch schedule with the company where you’re completing projects, so they know when you plan on eating. To RSVP your group for the lunch, please visit www.unitedwaycv.org/pages/rsvp_lunch.htm. |
| 6. | United Way will not be offering the option to have lunches delivered this year. It posed too many problems in the past. Please contact United Way at 846-8467 if you have concerns or questions. |
| 7. | HAVE FUN! Take lots of pictures and send them to United Way. Don't forget to recognize and thank your volunteers throughout the day, and send thank you notes afterwards. Volunteers enjoy being recognized and appreciated. You could even write a Letter to the Editor to highlight all the good things accomplished on DOC at your agency. |
| 8. | As always, United Way encourages and appreciates event feedback. Please notify Nikole Branch, 455-6900, with all suggestions, questions and comments. And lastly, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, for everything you do! |
