Develop Fun & Worthwhile Projects

Now that you've decided to participate in DOC, it's time to think of all those projects you've been wanting to tackle for the past year but haven't found the time or the funds to make their completion a reality. Here are some things to keep in mind when coming up with projects.

1.

Projects Guidelines:

  • Projects must be completed in one day.
  • Project materials must be reasonable.
  • Projects must have a Project Coordinator (agency staff person or board member) who will successfully plan and oversee the project from start to finish.
  • Projects must benefit an agency or group of agencies. The only time a project can benefit an individual is when the project has been submitted by a case worker through an agency.
  • All project proposals are subject to review and evaluation by the Day of Caring Committee.

2.

Keep in mind, volunteers prefer "hands-on" projects and activities. "Projects" requesting monetary donations will not be accepted; however, requests for clothing, food bank stock, or similar gift-in-kind items are acceptable and are often chosen by volunteers.

3.

The most important things to consider when coming up with projects is that volunteers want to help and make a difference on DOC, so offer projects that allow them to do so!
