United Way of Central Virginia is the most diverse and broad-based giving program in the region, working with the community to effectively and efficiently meet the region's most critical human service needs. The bottom line is to ensure that the programs receiving United Way funding are creating measurable results. The 2007 distribution of funds from the 2006 campaign has been approved. Number of People Helped in 2006
Over 190,601 materials were distributed throughout Central Virginia in 2006. Allocating funds to programs at United Way Partner Agencies is a very involved process, and United Way staff does not make the decision. Over 100 trained volunteers from within our community serve on the Fund Distribution Committee and spend several months carefully analyzing our community’s needs, evaluating the performance and impact of Partner Agencies and studying funding requests. Once the committee’s funding recommendations are approved by United Way's Board of Directors, campaign funds are distributed to programs that make the greatest impact in our community. From February through May each year, the Fund Distribution Committee examines applications from Partner Agencies for United Way support. The committee makes site visits to evaluate each program’s performance and results, studies funding requests, analyzes our community’s needs, and deliberates over allocations based on this data. The committee then makes its recommendation to the United Way of Central Virginia Board of Directors, which gives the final approval on the allocations during its May meeting. Agencies are then informed of the level of funding for their programs for the coming year. The graph above shows the efficient and effective use of United Way contributions to each Community Impact Area. What is United Way’s overhead? How much of my donation stays in Central Virginia?
