Community Response Team

United Way served as the catalyst to form the Community Response Team the afternoon of September 11, 2001 following the terrorist attacks on our country. We believed it vital that we create a collaborative response in support of our community.

Early in the Spring of 2002, the Team met again to determine whether or not additional support was needed to assist the Red Cross and others in helping the families affected by the tornadoes that touched down in Campbell and Bedford Counties. United Way loaned the Red Cross a member of its staff for a couple of days; however, no other needs were required due to the support of the local and national Red Cross and FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency).

With the ongoing war in Iraq and Afghanistan, you or members of your family may have concerns, questions, or confusion.  The Community Response Team is here to help and to support the members of our community.  Please call 2-1-1 VIRGINIA by dialing 2-1-1 to see how we may assist.

The Community Response Team remains on-call to respond to any critical issue that requires community-wide action. United Way serves a unique role that enables us to convene a broad cross-section of the community as the need may arise. This is another result that your investment in United Way makes possible. We thank the community for its continued support.
