Form a Day of Caring Team!

Now that you’ve begun the planning process, it’s time to think about forming project teams.

1.

Determine your company’s strengths, weaknesses, and interests regarding volunteer projects. Do the employees possess carpentry or plumbing knowledge? Do they want to work with agency clients, provide landscaping, or assist with clerical duties? Do they prefer to work in the morning, afternoon, or do they want an entire day’s worth of projects? This will allow you to form teams easily and will also help you to select projects that will interest all members of your teams.

2.

Designate a captain for each team. This person will be the main liaison between the agency and the team to ensure everyone has the same expectations for the project(s). Depending on the size of your company, the team captains should attend the Matching Breakfast (see the Matching Breakfast section of this guide for more info) along with the DOC Company Coordinator, so that they can meet with the appropriate agency coordinator to discuss project details. United Way encourages smaller volunteer teams because they are more efficient, and the majority of projects call for a smaller number of volunteers.

3.

Please remember, correspondence from United Way will only go to the one DOC Company Coordinator for the entire company. This person is then responsible for forwarding information to the team captains of individual teams.
