Get Started!

Thank you so much for your interest in participating in Day of Caring (DOC)! The event is a great team building exercise and the benefits to our local community are immeasurable. This guide outlines the steps for planning DOC within your company or organization. If you find that you have questions or concerns about this document, please contact Nikole Branch at United Way by phone (434)455-6900, as she will be your main contact throughout the planning process. Let's begin!

1.

After you've registered your company for DOC, appoint one Day of Caring (DOC) Coordinator for your company to be the liaison between United Way and your employees. This person will also ensure that all requests and forms are submitted on time and all deadlines are met. Click here to be directed to a timeline of important dates and deadlines.

2.

Recruit a committee with representatives from various departments, work sites, and with various talents to help you recruit, plan and organize.

3.

Utilize company newsletters, employee meetings, e-mail blasts or other forms of network communication you have available to announce your participation in DOC, and to recruit volunteers.

4.

Consider in-house or media coverage of DOC projects. A company promotional video is a great opportunity to showcase your employees’ volunteerism and commitment to the community. If you make a video, please also mail a copy to United Way’s VP of Marketing and Communications.
