* SPECIAL NOTICE *

The Calling for 2-1-1 Act

In January 2007, both houses of the 110th Congress
re-introduced the Calling for 2-1-1 Act , which, if passed, will provide financial support to designated 2-1-1 state entities. Local support of the Calling for 2-1-1 Act – from state legislators, community leaders, nonprofit agencies and citizens – is critical in moving this legislation through Congress.

The Calling for 2-1-1 Act of 2007, would authorize $700 million over six years to assist states with implementing and sustaining 2-1-1 statewide. States would have to provide a 50 percent match to the grant, which could come from current 2-1-1 funding in the community, such as United Way funding, funding through other non-profits, state and local government, foundations and businesses. Funding would be administered by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The Act closed the 109th Congress with 199 bi-partisan congressional cosponsors. It currently has 122 cosponsors in the 110th Congress.

To get an updated list of cosponsors of the Calling for 2-1-1 Act of 2007 or to get the full text of the bill, you can visit http://thomas.loc.gov and look the bill up by name or bill number (S. 211 in the Senate and H.R. 211 in the House). If you scroll to the middle of the page, you can also look up bills from previous Congresses.

We encourage you to ask your Members of Congress to pass The Calling for 2-1-1 Act (HR 211 / S. 211). For more information on making this service available nation-wide, go to www.211.org and click on "Get Involved" or call call the toll-free number:
