Comprehensive Sites

Forum on Child And Family Statistics
Access to federal and state statistics and reports on children and their families, including: population and family characteristics, economic security, health, behavior and social environment and education.
 
Head Start and Early Head Start
Comprehensive child development programs which serve children from birth to age 5, pregnant women, and their families. They are child-focused programs and have the overall goal of increasing the school readiness of young children in low-income families.

National Association of Child Care Resource & Referral Agencies
provides national leadership to building quality child care systems, community by community and neighborhood by neighborhood.
 
National Child Care Information Center
A national resource that links information and people to complement, enhance, and promote the child care delivery system.

Professional Development Sites

Council For Professional Recognition
The Council works to improve the professional status of early childhood workers and helps to meet the growing need for qualified child care staff.
 
The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC)
The nation's largest organization of early childhood professionals and others dedicated to improving the quality of early childhood education programs for children birth through age eight.
 
The Promising Practices Network
Provides information on programs and practices that are effective in helping children, families, and communities.

Licensure and Accreditation

National Resource Center for Health and Safety in Child Care
Focus on promoting health and safety in child care settings. Provides information on Virginia’s child care licensure regulations, including child day care centers, family day homes, and religiously exempted child day centers. Also provides a very comprehensive list of child care links.
 
Virginia State Licensing Program
Department of Social Services Information on licensure requirements in VA. Also provides information on training workshops available.
 
National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC)
National organization of early childhood educators. Provides information on NAEYC accreditation, including a readiness survey.

The Center for Assessment and Policy Development
Helps institutions, communities and public systems craft and execute thoughtful responses to pressing social issues - particularly, improving outcomes for children, adolescents, and families.
 
Child Quest International
Dedicated to the protection and recovery of missing, abused and exploited children.
 
The Early Care and Education Collaborative
A multi-year project of five state based child advocacy organizations and five national organizations working on child care issues. The project's purpose is to design and implement strategic public education strategies aimed at creating the public will in each of the target states to expand both the supply and the quality of early care and education resources.
 
The Early Childhood Institute
Sponsors comprehensive and challenging research in order to help ensure that America's young children are successful in school and beyond - and to enhance their quality of life and that of their families.
